Both counseling and coaching provide solutions to get you closer to the life you want to be living. Some say that counseling works on the “why” of the problem, whereas coaching focuses on the “how” to get out of the problem; they also say that counselors will look at the past and coaches will look at the future. Coaching is usually more goal-oriented with fewer sessions. Counseling usually goes into more depth than coaching work, and takes place over a longer duration. If you don’t know what direction suits you best, we can talk it over together.
Coaching is also a great option for individuals who need extra confidentiality and prefer to keep their health private and off-record.
For clients who like or want to be active, I provide Active services where clients can engage in physical activity (walk or bike) while we meet.
Active Coaching
-
Walk & Talk
Walk your trail or neighborhood while we talk on the phone, or come walk Duke’s East Campus loop (1.5 mile) with me. We leave from the office and return to the office, so Walk & Talk is an option for most clients, including therapy clients.
-
Coach & Ride
You need an indoor stationary bike and a surface to prop up your laptop or display your iPad/cell phone (so you can be hands free). During Coach and Ride, we talk while we ride together: me on my bike at the office, you on your bike in the comfort of your home, usually at an easy pace.
All clients engage in physical activity at their own risk and our ability to be active will depend on your goals, your ability (and mine), weather and whether suitable to your therapy/coaching goals.
Availability for these sessions is limited, so get in touch!
